Fleet Win 7th Straight Crown!!

SUMTER, SC-- The Erskine women's tennis team won their 7th straight Conference Carolinas title on Sunday afternoon at the Palmetto Tennis Center in dramatic fashion, defeating Queens, 5-3. The Fleet fell behind 2-1 in doubles but got outstanding singles play to claim the victory. Freshman Corin Hallman and sophomore Victoria Stephens picked up the lone doubles point at #2 with a 8-6 win. The Fleet got going in singles with Nikki Miller picking up a straight set win at #6 singles to tie the match at 2-2. Senior Britton Bignon picked the 3rd point with a straight set win at #3 singles. Queens picked up their 3rd point at #4 singles, but sophomore Victoria Stephens, the tourney MVP, put the Fleet up 4-3 with a straight set win. The drama then unfolded with #1 Tessa Rheault and #2 Corin Hallman locked in three set matches. Rheault rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the 3rd set while Hallman pushed out to a 5-2 lead in her third set. Rheault claimed the final point with a 7-5 win as Hallman watched before finishing her match. The victory takes Erskine into the Southeast Regionals on May 4th at Armstrong Atlantic University in Savannah, Ga.
