Erskine women's tennis rolls past Pfeiffer 9-0

Clemson, SC - The Erskine women’s tennis team continued their roll through conference play by defeating Pfeiffer University 9-0 in Conference Carolinas women’s tennis action at the Clemson Indoor Tennis Facility.  Erskine moves to 8-1 overall and 7-0 in conference while Pfeiffer University slips to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in conference.

Erskine sailed through all nine matches today.  In doubles, Erskine wasted little time at #2 and #3 doubles, winning both matches 8-2.  At #1 doubles, Tessa Rheault (Levis, Quebec, Canada, Ecole Pointe Levy)and Britton Bignon (Athens, GA, Oconee County High School)prevailed over Alena Krutkina and Chelsi Haefele 8-5.

Erskine continued their roll in the singles competition winning all six matches in straight sets.  Freshman Corin Hallman (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) shutout Pfeiffer’s Catie Thomas 6-0 and 6-0 and fellow freshman April Horne (Columbia, SC, Brookland-Cayce High School) crushed Kayleigh Featherstone 6-1 and 6-0.  Senior captain Britton Bignon also won in convincing fashion 6-1 and 6-1 while Victoria Stephens (Cumming, GA, South Forsyth High School) handily beat Briana Oliver 6-2 and 6-1.  Abby O'Reilly (Acworth, GA, Harrison High School) got off to a slow start winning her first match 6-4 but came back to pound Chelsi Haefele 6-0 in the second set.  Only at #1 singles did Pfeiffer seriously threaten to win a match where Tessa Rheault defeated Alena Krutkina 6-4 and 7-5.

Today’s match was moved to the Clemson Indoor Tennis Facility due to the inclement weather in the area.

Next Friday the Lady Fleet square off against archrival Anderson University at 3 p.m.
