Due West, SC – Erskine downed local rival Lander University 6-3 in non-conference women’s tennis action at the Erskine College Tennis Courts.  The Fleet climb to 11-2 on the season while Lander loses their third straight match falling to 10-5 on the season.

In the doubles competition, Erskine grabbed a quick point as Tessa Rheault (Levis, Quebec, Canada, Ecole Pointe Levy) and Britton Bignon (Athens, GA, Oconee County High School) defeated Cayce Bradley and Aurelia Ruffat 8-2 to earn the first team point of the match.  Abby O'Reilly (Acworth, GA, Harrison High School) and Nikki Miller (Simpsonville, SC, Southside Christian School) won their doubles match over Brandi Cordell and Melanie Newbold 8-4 while Corin Hallman (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) and Victoria Stephens (Cumming, GA, South Forsyth High School) lost just for the third time this season 8-6.

Leading 2-1 entering the singles competition, Erskine’s Corin Hallman quickly routed Aurelia Ruffat in straight sets to put the Fleet up 3-1.  Lander University won the next two singles matches to tie the match 3-3 as Brandi Cordell defeated Tessa Rheault 6-3 and 6-3 and Eliza Adusumilli beat Britton Bignon 6-4 and 6-2.  It was just the second time this season that Bignon had lost a singles match.   The Fleet won the match by winning the remaining three singles matches.   Both Abby O’Reilly and Nikki Miller fought back to win their matches in three sets.

With Erskine on spring break next week, the Fleet will travel to Hilton Head to play three matches.
