Due West, SC - The Erskine women’s tennis team defeated Queens University 6 to 3 in Conference Carolinas women’s tennis action at the Erskine College Tennis Complex. With the victory, Erskine reclaims the conference regular season championship while improving to 10-1 overall and 8-0 in conference. Queens slips to 9-3 overall and 4-1 in conference.
Erskine swept the doubles competition to take an early 3-0 lead. Abby O'Reilly (Acworth, GA, Harrison High School) and Nikki Miller (Simpsonville, SC, Southside Christian School) cruised past Amanda Poole and Hewit Hawn 8-1 at #3 doubles. Corin Hallman (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) and Victoria Stephens (Cumming, GA, South Forsyth High School) slipped past Erin Williams and Christina Rustscheff 8-6 at #2 doubles to give the Fleet their second match point. At #1 doubles, Tessa Rheault (Levis, Quebec, Canada, Ecole Pointe Levy) and Britton Bignon (Athens, GA, Oconee County High School) won a hotly contested match 9-7 to give Erskine the sweep in doubles.
Erskine split the singles matches, winning three of six. Corin Hallman and Nikki Miller easily won their two matches in straight sets. Britton Bignon faced a little more adversity but also won in straight sets 7-5 and 6-3. Both Tessa Rheault and Victoria Stephens lost their matches in three sets.
Erskine hosts BYU-Hawaii on Monday starting at 3:00 p.m.
