Fleet Fall to North Greenville 1-0

Due West, SC – North Greenville scored a run in the top of the first inning and would hold the Flying Fleet offense scoreless to win 1-0 in non conference baseball action Tuesday afternoon at Grier Field.

Anthony Foulk singled in the top of the first for the Crusaders and later scored on a sacrifice fly by David Frazier to give North Geenville the lead.

Erskine would have several chances to score, but could not get a big hit to tie the game.  The Fleet stranded 11 runners in nine innings.  With one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, pinch hitter Luke Danielewicz (Spartanburg, SC, Dorman High School) would line a single into left field to start a late rally for the Fleet.  Phillip Herring (Dillion, SC, Dillion HS) would follow him with a single to right field to put the winning run on.  Casey Winckowski (Oregon, OH, Owens CC) just missed ending the game as he flew out to deep left field for the second out.  Chase Corn (Travelers Rest, SC, Blue Ridge HS) then walked to load the bases and put the tying run just 90 feet away.  John Bolding (Pickens, SC, Pickens HS) would then step to the plate looking to give Erskine the win, but he would just miss hitting a walk off grand slam flying out to left to end the game.

Taylor Wall (Summerville, SC, Pinewood Prep HS) (1-1) took the tough luck loss allowing just one run on five hits in four innings of work.  Corn, Bolding, Danielewicz, Herring, and Zach Smith (Lexington, SC, White Knoll HS) all had a hit apiece for the Fleet.

Erskine returns to action tomorrow as they host Wingate at 2:30 pm.
