Due West, SC – The Erskine Volleyball Team flew past the Falcons of Pfeiffer University 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-22) today in Conference Carolinas women’s volleyball action at Belk Arena. With the win, Erskine climbs to 17-12 overall and 12-3 in conference while Pfeiffer drops to 9-11 and 6-8 in conference.
Erskine opened the first set in grand style sprinting out to a 7-0 lead highlighted by two kills from senior
Sandra Campbell (Pilot Point, TX, USC-Upstate). Erskine appeared as if they would run away with the set but Pfeiffer used an 8-0 run to close within six points at 22-16. The Fleet prevailed to win the opening set 25-19.
Pfeiffer continued to play well to open the second set grabbing an early 9-5 lead. The Fleet used a 6-2 run to tie the game at 11-11. Pfeiffer quickly regained the lead on a kill by Milana Mervosh. Erskine again bounced back to tie the game at 17-17 on a block by junior
Alicia Bragg (Rock Hill, SC, Rock Hill High School). The Fleet won the next point on a kill by
Liz Massey (Greenville, SC, Eastside High School) to take the lead for the first time. The Fleet closed out the set on a 5-2 run to go up 2-0 in the match.
The Fleet spotted the Falcons the first three points of the third and final set on two attack errors and a rotation error. But the Fleet used runs of 5-0 and 6-3 to take an 11-6 lead. After exchanging a series of points, Pfeiffer tied the game at 21-21 on five Erskine errors and service ace by Kaci Markham. Following a Pfeiffer attack error,
Larz Chabra (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) put the Fleet up by two on an ace. Erskine’s
Caitlin Bullock (Lexington, SC, White Knoll High School)knocked down the last two points to give the Fleet the set and match.
Campbell had a game-high 13 kills to lead the Fleet while teammate
Lauren Stewart (Hartwell, GA, Hart County High School) had 10 kills. Chabra had an excellent all-around game from her setter position finishing with a game-high 33 assists, 3 kills, 6 digs and 2 blocks. Massey had a game-high 15 digs.
For the Falcons, Kim Amerell had 10 kills and Cate Glendenning had 22 assists.
Erskine hosts their last home game of the regular season this Tuesday against Converse College. Prior to the game, Erskine will honor their two senior volleyball players. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
