Queens Downs Fleet 5 to 1

Hartsville, SC – #2 Erskine lost to #3 Queens 5 to 1 in the non-elimination game in the Conference Carolinas Softball Championship Tournament.

 

Queens jumped out quickly to a 4 to 0 lead scoring three runs in the first inning and another run in the second inning.  Queens added one more run in the top of the sixth.  Meanwhile, Queens’ Chantel Dodge, Conference Carolina Co-Pitcher of the Year, stymied the Fleet attack.  Dodge pitched seven innings yielding just one run on eight hits and struck out eight to earn her 18th win of the season.  The Fleet lone run came in the fifth inning on Kristy Fincher’s pinch hit RBI single scoring her sister Kerry Fincher, pinch running for Morgan Purcell.  Fleet senior Lauren Gunter (3-6) took the loss throwing seven innings surrendering five runs, four earned, on seven hits.  She struck out three while walking two.

 

Erskine will play Pfeiffer tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. in the elimination bracket while Queens moves on to face #1 Limestone at 3:00 p.m.
