C. Davis Hits 3 Home Runs As Erskine Pounds Pfeiffer

Misenheimer, NC – Senior Courtney Davis hit three home runs as Erskine pounded Pfeiffer 10 to 0 in both games of today’s softball doubleheader at Jack Ingram Field.  In the first game, Courtney Davis ignited the Erskine offense smashing a two-run homer in the top of the second.  The Fleet scored two more runs in the top of the fifth off of Kelly Davis’ double.  The Fleet put the game out of reach by scoring three runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to win the game 10 to 0.  On the mound, Heather Richey held the Lady Falcons to just two hits over seven innings.  The freshman hurler struck out seven without surrendering a walk, earning her fourth victory of the season.

In the nightcap, Courtney Davis once again provided the fireworks hitting her 15th and 16th home runs of the season.  Davis hit a two-run blast in the first inning then added solo shot in the third inning.  For her third at-bat, Pfeiffer elected to intentionally walk Davis.  Meanwhile, freshman Kelsey Spurrier stymied the Lady Falcon hitters surrendering just three hits over 6 innings, striking out seven and yielding just one walk for her seventh win of the year.  In addition to Davis’ two home runs, Christina Cothran connected for her first home run of the year, a three-run shot in the top of the sixth.

With the pair of victories, the Fleet improve to 7-1 in Conference Carolinas (15-16-1 overall) and trail Limestone (4-0 Conference Carolinas) by one game for first place.  Next week the Fleet play three tough conference opponents.  On Wednesday, the Fleet host archrival Anderson University for two games on Wednesday followed by a trip to face Limestone College on Friday.  The Fleet then return home to play a doubleheader against Mount Olive College on Saturday.
