Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College Baseball team (5-17) fell to 20th ranked Erskine College (24-7) 14-7 Tuesday afternoon at Gil Coan Field. The Tornados led five to two after two innings, but the Flying Fleet scored at least one run in seven of their nine turns at bat to sweep the season series over Brevard.
Erskine would take a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when
Phillip Herring (Dillion, SC, Dillion HS) would hit a two out single and then later score on an RBI single from
Greg Huff (McDonough, GA, Henry County High School). Brevard scored three runs on four consecutive hits in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead. The Tornados would add two more run in the third inning to go up 5-2.
Erskine would tie the game up with three runs in the fourth inning, the key hits for the Fleet were an RBI single from
Chas Anthony (Pickens, SC, Pickens High School) and a run scoring double from
Bryan Fogle (Lexington, SC, Lexington High School). Erskine would go on to score nine runs in the final four innings to take the victory.
Fogle went four for five with three runs scored and three driven in. He now has 60 RBI this season. Three of his hits were doubles. First basemen John Bolding was three for six with three RBI and two runs scored.
Derek Smith (Lexington, SC, Lexington HS) (3-0) picked up the win allowing one run on two hits in four innings of relief work while striking out five.
The Fleet returns to action as the travel to Tigerville, SC for a double header against North Greenville at 1:00 pm.
