#21 Erskine Bounces Back to Defeat Brevard

Due West, SC – The 21st ranked Flying Fleet banged out 17 hits, including nine for extra bases, to take a 16-5 victory over visiting Brevard College Tuesday afternoon in non conference baseball action.

Erskine would break a scoreless tie in the bottom of the second inning, when freshman Drew Willingham (Greenwood, SC, Greenwood HS) blasted a three run home run over the left field fence. After a lead off walk in the top of the third, Matthew Ennis would single to put runners at second and third. The Tornados would take advantage of an error by the Fleet third baseman to score their first run and then Ennis would score on a ground out by Matthew Pruitt to make it a 3-2 game.

Erskine would then answer in the bottom half of the inning with a RBI double by Bryan Fogle (Lexington, SC, Lexington High School) and a two run home run by Chas Anthony (Pickens, SC, Pickens High School) to make it a four run game. Erskine would add four more runs in the bottom of the forth, with RBI singles by Shawn Glover (Columbia, SC, Richland Northeast High School) and Fogle, and RBI doubles by Casey Winckowski (Oregon, OH, Owens CC) and Anthony. The Tornados got a two run single by Kramer Clark and a RBI single from Stephen Mullis in the fifth inning to cut the Erskine lead to 10-5, but that would be as close as Brevard would get as the Fleet would add six runs in the bottom half of the inning and cruise to the 16-5 victory.

Chas Anthony continued to swing a hot bat for the Fleet going 4-5 with two doubles, a home run, and four RBIs to lead the Erskine offense. Willingham finished the game 2-3 with a home run and three runs driven in, while Fogle was 2-5 with a double and three RBIs.Carlton Watts (Laurens, SC, Spartanburg Methodist) picked up his second win of the season allowing just two hits in two innings of relief.

Brevard was led at the plate by Clark who was 1-4 with two runs driven in, while Ennis was 1-2 with two runs scored. Jacob Wright took the loss allowing three runs on three hits in two innings of work for the Tornados.
