Banner Elk, NC – The Erskine volleyball team dropped two games today at Williams Gymnasium losing the first game 3 to 0 to Lees-McRae and the second game to Tusculum College 3 to 2. With the two losses, the Fleet fall to 14-8 overall and 10-3 in conference.
The Flying Fleet lost the first game to Lees-McRae in straight sets 25-23, 25-21, and 25-21. Junior Sandra Campbell (Pilot Point, TX, Point Pilot HS) led the Fleet with 10 kills along with 4 blocks. Senior Alison Albers (Goodhue, MN, Goodhue HS)had a season-high 8 blocks while Liz Massey (Greenville, SC, Eastside High School)led the back row with 9 digs. Sophomore Larz Chabra (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School)did a superb job from her setter position finishing with 29 assists, 4 kills, 2 digs and 2 blocks.
Lees-McRae got a “double-double” from #6 Megan Epperson with a game-high 13 kills and 11 digs. #15 Whitney Justice contributed 10 kills to the winning cause.
In the second game, the Fleet took on South Atlantic Conference member Tusculum College. In a five-set thriller, Tusculum edged the Fleet 25-16, 19-25, 25-13, 22-25, and 15-9. Campbell again led the Fleet offense with a team-high 12 kills and 5 blocks. Chabra earned her second “double-double” of the season with 34 assists and 14 digs. She also had 5 kills. Massey had another stellar defensive game finishing with a career-high 20 digs for the Fleet.
Tusculum had two players earn “double-doubles” as #5 Sam Underwood had a team-high 12 kills and 16 digs and #13 Ashley Sarmiento had 46 assists and 15 digs.
The Fleet return home this Tuesday to play Converse College. This game is Erskine’s DIG PINK game to raise funds for breast cancer education and research. Admission is $5 with all the proceeds going to the Side-Out Foundation.
