#11 Fleet Defeat Brevard 12-2

Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College Tornado baseball squad was beaten, 12-2, Tuesday afternoon at Gil Coan Field by the Flying Fleet of Erskine College. Combined with Erskine's 10-5 victory over the Tornados on February 19, the Fleet take the season series over Brevard.

Mike Moore (Lexington, SC, Gilbert High School) (5-2) pitched seven innings and picked up the win, allowing two runs while fanning ten batters. Spencer Linn (2-4) started and gave up four runs in an inning of work to take the loss. Linn left after just one inning after being hit by a pitch on the hand in the bottom half of the 1st. Erskine put up a four-spot in the top half of the opening frame. John Bolding and Mo Seay (Anderson, SC, Wofford College) tallied RBI doubles, with Seay's scoring two runs, and Brandon Garrett (Woodruff, SC, Woodruff HS) added an RBI single to make the score 4-0.

The game stayed 4-0 until the bottom half of the 6th, when the Tornados scored a pair. After Ben Pacey led off the frame with a single, Matthew Pruitt scored a run with a double to light up the Tornado half of the scoreboard. Two batters later, Stephen Mullis singled home Pruitt to make the score 4-2.

Erskine put some distance between themselves and the Tornados in the 8th. Seay came through with another two-run double, and Cody McElhaney (Beech Island, SC, Midland Valley HS) added a run on a fielder's choice to make the score 7-2.

The Fleet broke the game open with five in the 9th. The big shot was a two-run double from Zach McCarthy (Spartanburg, SC, Byrnes HS) to put the final two runs on the board. With the win,

Erskine improves to 31-8 on the season and will travel to Catawba tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 pm.
