#11 Erskine Defeats Anderson 12-2 in Series Opener

Due West, SC---The 11th ranked Flying Fleet pounded out 18 hits, including seven for extra bases in a 12-2 victory over Anderson University Friday afternoon in the opening game of the Conference Carolinas series.

 

Erskine took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a two run single from Bryan Fogle (Lexington, SC, Lexington High School).  The Fleet would add to their lead the very next inning scoring five runs to make it a 7-0 game.  Greg Huff (McDonough, GA, Henry County High School) and Keith Hill (Abbeville, SC, Abbeville High School) both had RBI singles, while the big blow was a three run home run by Fogle.  Chas Anthony (Pickens, SC, Pickens High School) would make it a nine run game in the fourth with a two run home run to left field and the Fleet would cruise to the 12-2 victory. 

 

William Buzhardt (Columbia, SC, Ben Lippen High School) (4-3) had an outstanding performance on the mount to pick up the victory.  He scattered eight hits over eight innings and struck out eight while giving up just two runs.

 

Cody McElhaney (Beech Island, SC, Midland Valley HS) was 4-5 with three doubles and an RBI for the Fleet, while Fogle finished 2-3 with a home run and five RBIs.  Huff was 3-5 with a double and two runs batted in, Hill was 3-6 with two RBIs, and Anthony finished 2-5 with a home run and two RBIs.

 

Blair Carson led the Trojans at the plate going 2-2 with an RBI, while Trent Still and Josh Grubbs both added two hits each.  Chris Pitts (2-5) took the loss allowing seven runs on eight hits.

With the win, Erskine improves to 28-8 and 9-6 in the conference, while Anderson falls to 16-25 and 5-13.  The two teams will conclude their series tomorrow with a double header starting at 12:00 pm.
