Tigerville, SC---The 11th ranked Flying Fleet defeated North Greenville 7-6 Thursday afternoon in non conference baseball action. The second game of the double header was cancelled due to the rain that started at the end of game one.
Erskine got on the board in the first when Keith Hill (Abbeville, SC, Abbeville High School) singled, then later advance to third on an wild pick off attempt by the Crusader pitcher, and then scored on a passed ball. Matt Schneider (Greenville, SC, Greenville High School) would then make it a 2-0 game with a lead off home run in the second.
In the third, Hill would lead the inning off with another solo home run to put the Fleet up 3-0. The Crusaders would cut it to a 3-1 game in the bottom half of the inning on a solo home run by David Frazier and the tie the game up on a two run single in the fourth by Frazier.
Bryan Fogle (Lexington, SC, Lexington High School) would answer for the Fleet with two outs in the top of the fourth with the third home run of the day for Erskine to make it a 4-3 game. With two outs in the top of the sixth, Brandon Garrett (Woodruff, SC, Woodruff HS) would walk and then advance to third on a double by Cody McElhaney (Beech Island, SC, Midland Valley HS) to bring Matt Youngblood (Travelers Rest, SC, Blue Ridge CC) to the plate. Youngblood would single to right field to score both runners and give the Fleet some breathing room. Erskine would add another run in the seventh on a RBI double by Schneider to make it a 7-3 game and the Fleet would hold off a Crusader rally in the bottom half of the inning to take the victory.
Schneider was 2-4 for the Fleet with a home run, double, and two runs batted in, while Hill finished 2-4 with a home run and RBI. Chachere Freeman (Columbia, SC, AC Flora HS) (2-1) picked up the win, allowing three runs in three innings of relief work. Atlee Pearson (Duncan, SC, Byrnes HS) picked up his seventh save of the year recording the final out of the game with the bases loaded.
