Cody McElhaney's two run home run puts Erskine up for good

Fleet Open up Conference Tournament with 9-2 Victory Over Pfeiffer

Wilson, NC---The fourth seeded Flying Fleet defeated fifth seeded Pfeiffer University 9-2 Thursday night to open up play in the 2009 Conference Carolinas baseball tournament.

 

Pfeiffer took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a solo home run by Zach Pou of Erskine starter William Buzhardt.  Freshman Cody McElhaney would give the Fleet the lead in the bottom of the second, blasting a two run home run over the left field fence,  Erskine would go on to add seven more runs over the next six innings to take the victory.

 

Conference Carolinas Co-Player of the Year Bryan Fogle led the Fleet going 2-2 with two RBIs, while Greg Huff was 2-4 with two runs scored and Mo Seay added anther home run.  Buzhardt picked up the win allowing two runs on six hits in six and one-thirds innings of work.

With his stolen base in the game, Keith Hill broke the school record for a season with his 30th stolen base.


With the win, Erskine advances to play #1 seed Belmont Abbey at 1:00 tomorrow afternoon.
