#11 Erskine Splits with Barton

Due West, SC---Erskine College and Barton College split a Conference Carolinas double header Saturday afternoon at Grier Field, with the Bulldogs winning game one 5-4 and the Fleet taking game two 5-0.

After a lead off double by Greg Huff (McDonough, GA, Henry County High School) in the bottom of the first, Bryan Fogle (Lexington, SC, Lexington High School) would single to left field to score Huff and give Erskine a 1-0 lead.  Barton would tie the game up in the second when Allen Corbett scored on a ground out by Braxton Lewis.  The Bulldogs would make it a 2-1 game the very next inning when Zach Boyette singled to score Chris Rawlings.  Barton would take a 4-1 lead into the fifth, when Huff blasted a solo home run to center field to gut the lead in half.

After the Bulldogs added another run in the seventh, Erskine would stage a final inning rally.  Mo Seay (Anderson, SC, Wofford College) came off the bench and got a single, then Huff doubled for the second time in the game to put runners at second and third with Keith Hill (Abbeville, SC, Abbeville High School) coming to the plate with two outs.  Barton would bring in Nick Nigito to try to close the game out.  Hill would lay down a bunt to third base for a hit to load the bases to bring Fogle to the plate.  Fogle would hit a ground ball to the shortstop who threw the ball away at first allowing two runs to score and make it a one run game.  Nigito would regroup and get a ground out the next pitch to close the game and get the save.

Rawlings finished the game 2-2 with two RBIs for the Bulldogs, while Brandon Sneed was 2-3 with a double and run scored.  Kramer Sneed picked up the win allowing four runs on seven hits in six and two-thirds innings.

Huff led the Fleet at the plate going 3-4 with two doubles, a home run and a run batted in and John Bolding (Pickens, SC, Pickens High School) finished the game 1-3 with a double.  Carlton Watts took the loss allowing four runs on eight hits in five innings with five strike outs.

In game two, the Fleet once again took a 1-0 lead in the first, when Huff scored on a sacrifice fly by Chas Anthony (Pickens, SC, Pickens High School).  Erskine would push it to a 4-0 game in the fifth on a RBI single by Huff and a two run double by Fogle and then add another run in the sixth for the 5-0 victory.

Fogle was 2-3 with a double and two runs driven in to lead the Fleet, while Huff was 2-4 with an RBI in the victory.  Mike Moore (Lexington, SC, Gilbert High School) pitched a complete game shut out, scattering six hits over seven innings and striking out nine batters to pick up the win.

Wesley Francis was the lone Bulldog with two hits in game two, while Jason Nichols was 1-3.  Hunter Meekins took the loss allowing four runs on eight hits in 4.1 innings of work.
