Erskine Softball Splits with Limestone

Due West, SC---Erskine College and Limestone College split a Conference Carolinas softball double header Friday afternoon.  The Fleet won game one 7-6, while the Saints took game two 5-0.

 

In game one, Limestone took a 1-0 lead in the second when Jordan Smith scored on a single by Hannah Mills.  The Fleet would tie the game in the fourth when Katee Knapp (Branford, FL, Branford High School) doubled to right field and scored on a single by Lindsey LaPrad (Summerville, SC, Fort Dorchester HS).  Erskine would then score five runs in the fifth on an RBI single by Hailey Whitlock (Liberty, SC) who would score on a double by Kelly Davis (Weaverville, NC, North Buncombe High) and the Knapp would blast a three run home run to put the Fleet up 6-1.  The Saints would rally in the top of the seventh to tie the game at six on RBIs from Smith, Mills, Mallory Kuykendall, and Ashley Dorr.  Limestone would retire the first two Erskine hitters in the bottom of the seventh before Kayla Vinson (Berea, SC, Berea High School) doubled and then scored on a single by LaPrad to win the game.

 

Knapp led the Fleet at the plate going 2-3 with a double, home run, and three runs batted in while LaPrad was 2-4 with two RBIs.  Leigh Anne Shelley (Fork, SC, Lake View) picked up the win recording the final out in the seventh inning.

 

Mills was 3-4 with two RBIs to lead the Saints, while Kuykendall was 2-2 with a RBI and run scored.  Kristy Whitten took the loss allowing one run on two hits in two-thirds of an inning.

 

In game two, the Saints scored five runs in the third inning and that would be all they needed as they took the victory to earn the split.  Limestone got on the board on a RBI single from Christina Woolgar, then Kelsey Kuykendall drove in two runners with a two out double and Dorr would also add an RBI single.

 

Woolgar was 2-3 with a run batted in to lead the Saints, while Kuykendall finished the game 1-3 with a double and RBI.  Whitten picked up the win, pitching six shut out innings allowing just five hits and striking out five.

 

LaPrad led the Fleet going 2-3with a double, while Kelly Davis was 1-1.  Rebekah George (Mauldin, SC, Southside Christian) took the loss allowing four runs on four hits in 2.2 innings of work.
