#11 Fleet Take 6-4 Victory Over Armstrong Atlantic

Due West, SC---The 11th ranked Flying Fleet scored five unanswered runs to take a 6-4 victory over visiting Armstrong Atlantic State University Tuesday afternoon in non conference baseball action.

Armstrong Atlantic got on the board in the top of the first, when Josh Wilson scored on a sacrifice fly by Kenny Cail. The Pirates would add another run in the second on a lead off home run by John Roberts to make it a 2-0 game.

The Fleet would cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Brandon Garrett (Woodruff, SC, Woodruff HS), but Armstrong would answer with a two run single by Carlos Cardza-Oqundo in the top of the third to make it a 4-1 game. Chas Anthony (Pickens, SC, Pickens High School) would hit a two out solo home run to cut the Pirate lead to 4-2.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, John Bolding (Pickens, SC, Pickens High School) led off with a home run to make it a one run game. After the next two hitters were retired, Garret would walk and Greg Huff (McDonough, GA, Henry County High School) would hit a home run down the left field line to put the Fleet up 5-4.

It would remain a one run game until the seventh. Garrett was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, and then advanced to third base on an errant pick off. With one out, Keith Hill (Abbeville, SC, Abbeville High School) singled past the drawn in infield to make it a 6-4 game. That would be all Erskine would need as Atlee Pearson (Duncan, SC, Byrnes HS) came into the game in the eighth and retired all six batters he faced to pick up his sixth save of the season.

Hill was 2-4 with a RBI to lead the Fleet at the plate, while Garrett was 1-2 with a run batted in and Huff finished with a home run and two RBIs. Russell Reid (Hudson, NC, South Caldwell HS) picked up his sixth win of the season allowing just two hits in three innings of relief. The victory moved Reid into a tie for the second for most career victories at Erskine.

Michael Price was 2-3 for the Pirates, while Oqundo was 1-4 with two RBIs and Roberts had a home run and run scored. Blake Culberson took the loss for Armstrong Atlantic allowing five runs on seven hits and striking out seven in seven innings of work.

With the win, Erskine improves to 26-8 overall, while Armstrong falls to 28-10 with the loss.
