#18 Erskine Completes Series Sweep of Saint Andrews

Due West, SC---The 18th ranked Flying Fleet completed a three game sweep of Saint Andrews Saturday afternoon, winning game one of a double header 11-5 and winning game two 15-1.

 

The Knights took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two run home run by Samson Williams.  Erskine cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning when Greg Huff (McDonough, GA, Henry County High School) led off with a double and scored on a base hit by Keith Hill (Abbeville, SC, Abbeville High School).  Saint Andrews would push their lead to 4-1 in the third on an RBI ground out by Andrew Mudd and a run scoring single from Ivan Rodriguez. 

 

The Fleet would tie the game up in the bottom of the fifth when Matt Schneider (Greenville, SC, Greenville High School) scored on a single from Zach McCarthy (Spartanburg, SC, Byrnes HS), but the Saints responded with a run in the sixth on an RBI ground out by Ethan Powell to make it a 5-4 game.  Erskine would score five runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead for good.  The big blow of the inning was a two run home run from Schneider.  The Fleet would add two more in the eighth and hold on for the victory.

 

Hill led the Fleet at the plate going 4-6 with a double and three runs batted in, while Chas Anthony (Pickens, SC, Pickens High School) was 3-5 with a double, home run and two RBIs.  Huitt Scarborough (Anderson, SC, Westside High School) (2-0) picked up the win allowing one run in six innings of relief and striking out four.

 

Williams led the Knights going 3-4 with a home run and two RBIs, while Powell was 2-3 with a double and run batted in.  Jeremy Fisher (1-5) took the loss allowing nine runs in 5.2 innings of work.

 

The Fleet came out swinging in game two, taking a 2-0 lead in the first and never looked back.  Bolding continued swinging a hot bat for Erskine going 3-4 with a home run and five runs driven in.  Anthony finished the game 3-3 with two doubles and four RBIs, while Cody McElhaney (Beech Island, SC, Midland Valley HS) was 1-3 with his second home run of the day and four runs batted in.  William Buzhardt (Columbia, SC, Ben Lippen High School) (3-3) picked up the complete game win allowing just one run and striking out four.

 

Michael Ficarro was 2-3 with an RBI for the Saints while Powell was 1-3 with a double.  James Shahayda (0-2) took the loss for Saint Andrews.

 

With the win Erskine improves to 22-7 overall and 7-5 in the conference, while Saint Andrews falls to 5-22 and 3-9.
