Softball Splits Double Header With Carson-Newman

Due West, SC---The Erskine College softball team split a double header with Carson-Newman Saturday afternoon. The Fleet won game one 3-0 and Carson-Newman took game two 5-2.

The Fleet took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, capped off with a RBI double from Katee Knapp. Erskine would not look back adding a run in the third on a RBI single from Lindsey LaPrad and then hold on for the 3-0 victory.

Knapp and LaPrad each went 1-2 with a RBI to lead the Fleet, while Hailey Whitlock was 2-3. Lauren Gunter pitched a complete game shut out to pick up the win.

Amber Hewitt, Sarah Little, and Whitney Kee each had a single for Carson-Newman in the loss. Stephanie Templeton took the loss, allowing three runs in six innings of work.

In game two, Erskine took a 1-0 lead in the second on a solo home run from Courtney Davis, but the Eagles tied the game up in the third when Brianne Coon scored on a sacrifice fly by Hewitt. Carson-Newman took the lead for good the following inning on a solo home run from Kee, then added another run in the fifth and two in the sixth to take the 5-2 victory.

Jessie Howard led Carson-Newman going 2-2 with a double and run scored, while Kee was 2-3 with a double, home run and RBI. Mary Shealy picked up the win allowing two runs in seven innings of work and striking out four.

Davis led the Fleet going 1-3 with a home run and RBI, while LaPrad was 1-3 with a run driven in and Knapp was 2-3 with a double. Rebekah George took the loss allowing two runs in four innings and striking out five.
