Erskine Splits With Mount Olive in Softball Action

Due West, SC---Erskine College split a Conference Carolinas double header with Mount Olive Monday afternoon, winning game one 4-3 in 10 innings and losing game two 7-4. The Fleet are now 22-15-1 and 13-1 in conference while Mount Olive is 21-18 and 7-7.

Erskine took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from Ashlee LaFontaine that scored Kelly Davis. The Fleet would add another run in the third when Davis doubled and later scored on an RBI single from Katee Knapp. The Trojans would cut the lead in half in the fifth when Courtney Wallace doubled and scored on a single from Bailey Harrell. Mount Olive would tie the game in the seventh to send it into extra innings tied at two. The Trojans would score a run in the top of the eighth to take the lead 3-2, but the Fleet would answer back in the bottom half of the innings when Davis scored on a squeeze bunt from LaFontaine. The score would remain 3-3 until the bottom of the tenth inning when LaFontaine would single up the middle to score Davis to give the Fleet the 4-3 victory.

LaFontaine led the Fleet going 4-5 with three RBIs, while Davis was 2-4 with a double and four runs scored. Rebekah George picked up the win allowing one run in three innings of relief and striking out four.

Erskine would once again jump out to an early lead in game two, scoring two runs in the bottom of first. The lead would be short lived as The Trojans scored four runs in the second capped off by a three run home run from Aubrey Reinhard. Mount Olive would add three more runs in the third to take a 7-2 lead over the Fleet. George would hit a two run home run in the fourth to cut the lead to 7-4 and that would be as close as the Fleet would get as they lost their first conference game of the season.

George led Erskine at the plate going 2-3 with a home run and two RBIs, while Knapp was 1-3 with a run driven in and Davis finished 1-4 with a double and run scored. George took the loss allowing six runs in 2 1/3 innings of work.
