Brevard, NC---Freshman Erick Guest picked up his first collegiate victory, pitching a complete game no hitter in the final game of a three game series against Brevard College to help the 15th ranked Fleet sweep the series from the Tornados and break the school record for most wins in a season.
In game one on Friday, the Fleet got on the board early with a two run home run from Chas Anthony in the first inning for the 2-0 lead. Erskine would add to their lead in the third with a three run home run by Bryan Fogle to push the lead to 5-1 and the Fleet would cruise to the 7-2 victory. Fogle led Erskine at the plate going 3-4 with a home run and three RBIs and Anthony was 2-4 with a home run and twp runs batted in. Junior Michael Moore picked up his 10th win of the season allowing just one earned run and striking out nine in a complete game performance. With the victory, Moore ties Barry Peters school record for career wins with his 24th.
In game one of the double header on Saturday, the Fleet would jump out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning and would not look back as it took a 10-1 victory over Brevard. Tyler Layton led Erskine at the plate going 2-3 with a home run and two RBIs, while Brandon Garrett was 2-3 with a triple and two runs batted in. John Bolding and Matt Schneider also added home runs for the Fleet in the victory. Atlee Pearson picked up the win allowing no runs in five innings of work and striking out four in his first start of the season. With their 43rd win on the season, the Fleet broke the school record for wins in a season that was set in 2006.
In the final game of the series the Fleet would take a 4-0 victory for the sweep. Bolding led the Fleet going 1-3 with his second home run of the day, while Fogle was 1-3 with an RBI. After struggling with his control in the first two innings Guest settled down and retired the next 13 batters of the game and after a one out walk in the seventh, he got the next batter to ground into a double play to complete the ninth no hitter in school history and the first since 1985.
With the sweep, Erskine improves to 44-8 on the season and will travel to Savannah on Tuesday to play Armstrong Atlantic at 3:00 pm.
