Belmont, NC----Erskine College closed out its regular season sweeping a Conference Carolinas double header from Belmont Abbey winning game one 8-6 and game two 6-4. Erskine improves to 26-17-1 overall and 16-2 in the conference.
Erskine took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one when Lindsey LaPrad singled in Ashlee LaFontaine. The Crusaders would answer with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to make it a 2-1 game. The Fleet would tie the game with an unearned run in the fourth and then make it a 4-2 game in the fifth on a two run home run from LaFontaine. Belmont Abbey would answer with three runs in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead at 5-4. The Fleet would score four runs in the seventh capped off by a two run double from Courtney Davis. Erskine held off a Crusader rally in the bottom of the seventh to take an 8-6 victory.
Erskine was led at the plate by Davis who was 2-3 with a double and two RBIs and LaFontaine who was 1-3 with a home run and two runs driven in. Lauren Gunter picked up the win allowing six runs in seven innings and striking out six.
The Fleet grabbed an early lead again in game two when Kayla Vinson scored on a double by LaPrad in the top of the first. Erskine would add two more runs in the second on a two run home run from Hailey Whitlock to make it a 3-0 game. The Fleet took a 6-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh, when the Crusaders would stage a rally with a one out, two run double to make it a 6-4 game but Rebekah George would retire the next two batters to end the game.
LaPrad led the Fleet going 3-4 with a double and RBI, while Whitlock was 1-3 with a home run and two runs batted in. Kelly Davis and Kaitlin Hunt had two hits each in the victory. George picked up the win allowing four runs in seven innings and striking out eight.
