Fleet Complete Conference Carolinas Sweep of St. Andrews

Due West, SC---Erskine swept a double header from St. Andrews 18-8 and 3-0 to complete a three game sweep of the Knights Saturday afternoon at Grier Field. With the win, the Fleet improve to 11-0 overall and 3-0 in Conference Carolinas action while St. Andrews falls to 3-8 and 0-3.

In game one, the Knights jumped out to a 1-0 lead in bottom of the first on a RBI single from Sam Williams that scored Kyle Norris who had doubled earlier in the inning. The Fleet took the lead in the third on a two out three run home run from Greg Huff and would not look back. Erskine added eight runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth and cruised to the 18-8 victory.

The Fleet was led at the plate by Huff who was 4-5 with a double, home run and five RBIs, while Bryan Fogle was 3-6 with a double and three RBIs. Matt Schneider and John Bolding each added home runs on the day. Michael Moore picked up the win allowing three runs in five innings of work and striking out two.

Kyle Norris led the Knights going 2-4 with a double and run batted in, while B.J. Horne came off the bench to hit a three run home run. Kyle Cummings took the loss allowing 11 runs in four innings of work.

After the offensive explosion in game one, game two turned into a pitchers duel. Erskine took a 1-0 lead in the second when Bolding scored on an attempt to throw Ross Hanna out stealing second base. The Fleet added another run in the third when Atlee Pearson scored on an RBI single from Fogle. The Knights would try to rally in the bottom of the third but Ivan Rodriguez would be thrown out at home by Keith Hill trying to score from second on a single from Michael Eastwood to end the inning. The would be the only runner St. Andrews would get in scoring position all game against Erskine starter William Buzhardt. The Fleet added an insurance run in the seventh with an RBI single from Pearson, and Buzhardt pitched a scoreless bottom half of the inning to complete the shut out.

Pearson was the lone Erskine hitter with two hits, going 2-3 with a double and RBI, while Fogle was 1-3 with a run batted in. Buzhardt picked up his third win of the season striking out five in a complete game shutout.

Rodriguez led the Knights going 2-3 with a stolen base while Eastwood and Charles Weber added hits. T.J. Chrusch took the loss allowing just three runs in seven innings striking out five batters.
