Fleet Pound Out 22 Hits to Take Series Opener Over St. Andrews

Due West, SC---Erskine pounded out 22 hits and scored 15 runs as it took a 15-8 victory over St. Andrews in both teams Conference Carolinas opener. The series was moved from Laurinburg, NC to Due West due to construction to the Knights home field. With the win Erskine improves to 9-0 and 1-0 in the conference and St. Andrews falls to 3-6 and 0-1.

Erskine got on the board early, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning with an RBI triple from Bryan Fogle and RBI single from Chas Anthony. The Knights would tie the game in the bottom of the fourth with a double from Kyle Norris that drove in two runs and a double from Vince Giunta that scored Norris. The Fleet answered right back the next inning scoring four runs capped off by a single from Matt Schneider that scored two runs.

After scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it a one run game, the Knights would take the lead in the sixth on a two RBI single from Michael Eastwood. Erskine didn’t stay behind long, scoring the tying run in the top of the seventh when Dereck King singled to score pinch runner Brandon Garrett. The Fleet would score three runs in the eighth and four in the ninth to take the 15-8 victory.

Erskine was led at the plate by Anthony who was 4-5 with a double, home run, and three RBIs, while Fogle finished 4-5 with a double, triple and two RBIs. Schneider and Shawn Glover each added two RBIs in the victory. Atlee Pearson picked up the win allowing just two hits and striking out four in 2.2 innings of relief.

St. Andrews was led on offense by Eastwood who was 2-5 with two runs batted in, while Giunta was 2-4 with a double and RBI. Travis Lee took the loss allowing nine runs in four innings of relief.

The two teams will play a double header tomorrow starting at 12:00. The Knights will again serve as the home team for both games.
