Shelton Cisson

Cisson enters his 3rd season on staff, and his 2nd season as the head recruiting coordinator.  He was also student assistant in 2008, the Fleet’s first appearance in a NCAA Baseball Regional.  Along with his duties as head recruiting coordinator, he also coaches infielders and serves as hitting instructor.  Cisson returned to coaching after working in the finance industry for 3 years.

As student assistant in 2008, he helped tutor All-American Chas Anthony, along with future Consensus National Player of the Year, Bryan Fogle, Greg Huff, and Jon Bolding, four of the most prolific hitters in Erskine history as well as NCAA DII history.  The 2008 squad remains one of the top offenses in single season history at Erskine.  In his returning season to Erskine, Cisson saw the emergence of 3 All-Conference performers in Drew Willingham, Will Huff, and Chase Corn.  All three of which had significant improvement in offensive output from their previous season in 2011.

A native of Greenville, SC, Cisson was recruited out of Berea High
School where he was an All-Region and All-State performer during his 4 years at the varsity level. He was rated the 17th best overall prospect in South Carolina for 2003 senior class, and was named to the North/South All-Star game.  He was the starting 3rd baseman on the 2003 Big League World Championship Team and was named to the All Tournament Team at the B.E.S.T. National Tournament as shortstop for the SC Diamond Travelers.

He came to Erskine in 2003-2004 and made an immediate impact for the program in which he was named CVAC Freshman of the Year as the starting shortstop for the Fleet.  He was named to the All-CVAC team 3 years and was All-Region in 2005.  Cisson was also named Pre-season All-American in 2006 and 2007.  In the summer of 2005 he was named to the Coastal Plain League All-Star team while playing for the Thomasville Hi-Toms, and spent the 2006 summer playing for the New Market Rebels of the Valley League.  His name was etched into the NCAA Division II record books in 2007 after he broke the all time hits (366) and all time doubles (81) records.  After the completion of his senior season, his #11 jersey was retired, and remains one of six players to have their number retired at Erskine College.  He was also honorable mention for the Diamond Prospects 2000-2009 South Carolina All Decade Team.
