Gallery: (11-16-2020) WTEN Grandparent Pairings 2020
Each year since 2000, the Erskine women’s tennis team has held their “Adopt-a-Grandparent” program. In this program, every student-athlete on the team is paired with a grandparent at the Renaissance Retirement Home here in Due West. The program was featured in the Spring 2019 edition of the NCAA Champion
magazine.
“When I got here, I really wanted to provide a service opportunity for my players to give back to this community,” head coach Calhoun Parr said. “The program adds energy and excitement to the grandparents’ days and it gives our players a resource for real-life decisions and problems they might be facing.”
Parr said the individual pairs try to meet once a week, and they might as a large group once a month.
“The relationships are the most important part of this; I want my players to learn the importance of serving their community,” Parr said.
