INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Ryan Killmer passed for 154 yards, completing 10 of his 21 attempts, but Brevard outgained the Fleet through the air, 214 to 154.
  • The Fleet struggled to find a consistent running game, while the Tornados showed their balance, also eclipsing 200 yards on the ground. Montrevious Baker scored his first Erskine touchdown with a four-yard score to cap a successful opening drive.
  • Jo Burson posted team highs in receptions (5) and receiving yards (68), while Keown Richardson added a 46-yard reception.
  • Gary Maddox III led the Fleet with seven tackles, while Judd Terry (2 TFL, 1 sack, 1 FF) also made a defensive impact. Damontia Duff added a big blocked field goal with an 86-yard touchdown return as well.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a succesful road stretch to start the year, the Fleet came home for the first time and were excellent out of the gates. The Erskine defense forced a three-and-out on its first possession, and the offense followed with a five-play, 75-yard scoring drive. Keown Richardson's 46-yard reception was the highlight of the drive that ended with a four-yard rushing touchdown from Montrevious Baker to open the scoring.
  • However, Brevard answered with a touchdown of its own on the ensuing drive and found the endzone again on the first play of the second quarter to take its first lead of the day. The Tornados got the ball back and looked to be driving again, but the Fleet defense got a stop in the redzone to force a field goal. Then, Damontia Duff came off the edge on the field goal attempt, blocked it, found the bouncing ball along the grass and scooped it for a momentum-changing 86-yard touchdown to tie the game at 14.
  • Brevard regained its lead with a made field goal in the final minutes of the first half, making it a 17-14 game at the break.
  • The Tornados had total control of the second half, though, scoring all of the game's 10 points after the interval to extend their to lead to 27-14.
  • After Erskine was forced to punt with five minutes remaining, Brevard took back over on offense and ran one play before the game entered into a long lightning delay. About an hour passed during the delay before it was mutually agreed to end the game.
