HOW IT HAPPENED
After a pair of scoreless innings from starting pitcher
Zach Kehn, the Fleet offense got going in the third.
Gio Lopez and
Carson Yates led off the frame with base hits, putting runners on the corners with no outs, and
Drew Potts' RBI groundout plated Lopez for the game's first run. A combined effort of Kehn,
Grant Kissner, and
Sullivan Mellor preserved the Fleet's 1-0 lead to the halfway point. However, North Georgia's two-run single in the bottom of the fifth put the Fleet in a 2-1 deficit. But, Erskine responded immediately in the top of the sixth with
Pierce Radke hitting a leadoff double and
Danny Villafane following with a single.
Ricky Dober and Lopez each added sacrifice flies later in the inning, firing Erskine back in front, 3-2. UNG tied the game with a run in the bottom half of the sixth and a two-run home run from the hosts in the eighth proved to be the difference in a low-scoring battle.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine sets its sights on the final weekend of regular season play, a trip to No. 13 Young Harris College (33-13, 23-7 CC) for a three-game series that starts Friday at 6 p.m.
