HOW IT HAPPENED
Starting a four-game road trip this week, the Fleet took an early lead as
Danny Villafane and
Carson Yates each scored in the second inning to make it 2-0. Savannah State scored the next three runs of the game to take its first lead, which held up until the sixth inning, when
Mason McManus delivered a go-ahead two-run single to put Erskine back in front, 4-3.
Jack Luthren added a two RBI single of his own in the seventh and a Villafane sacrifice fly in the eighth gave the Fleet some insurance for
Jared Guell, who earned his first save of the season with two dominant scoreless innings on the mound to put the finishing touches on a 7-5 road victory.
THE PLAYER
Mason McManus led the Fleet offense with a three-hit game, including what proved to be the game-winning two-run single in the sixth that put Erskine in front for good. Tuesday marked already the seventh time this season McManus has recorded three hits in a game, as he continued his excellent campaign at the plate.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine visits King University (8-14, 5-7 CC) for a three-game series in Bristol, starting Friday at 2 p.m.
