HOW IT HAPPENED
Ricky Dober drove in runs in each of his first two at-bats, with RBI singles in the first and third innings, and then a bases-loaded walk from Lott later in the frame put the Fleet in front, 3-0. Erskine added to its lead with a run in the fourth and fifth innings and looked to be in cruise control, leading 5-0 and freshman starting pitcher
Zach Kehn keeping USC Beaufort at bay through five scoreless frames on the mound. But, the Sandsharks scored three runs in the sixth and went in front with a four-run seventh to stun the Fleet. Erskine responded in the ninth, thanks to an RBI groundout from
Drew Potts and a game-tying single from
Danny Villafane to force extra innings. However, the Sandsharks walked it off in the tenth, as the Fleet could not get to the finish line after an early lead.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine returns home for a quick turnaround to take on Lander University (9-5, 3-3 PBC) on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
