HOW IT HAPPENED
Newberry opened the scoring in the top of the first inning to take an early lead, but starting pitcher
Eric Santaguida settled in and gave the Fleet a quality outing, pitching into the sixth inning. The Erskine offense had its chances to get on the board and tie the game in the next couple frames but were unable to find a clutch hit. The scoreline held at 2-0 until the seventh inning when the visitors scored six times to break the game open.
Cole Savage's RBI double in the eighth got the Fleet on the board, but Newberry's big seventh inning proved to be the final blow.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine returns to league play to cap this nine-game homestand with a huge weekend series against No. 3 North Greenville University (10-1, 2-1 CC) that starts on Thursday at 2 p.m.
