HOW IT HAPPENED
The Fleet were slow out of the gates on Wednesday as the visiting Pacers put up a five-run first inning, forcing Erskine to play from behind throughout the afternoon.
Pierce Radke got the Fleet on the board with a two-run single in the third, getting Erskine's deficit back to just 6-2, but USC Aiken broke the game wide open with a big fourth inning. The Fleet offense showed some life in the final frames, with
Adrian Rolon,
Mason McManus, and
Quinn Allen all tallying run-scoring hits in the seventh, and then
Stephen Kriner and
Jacob Lott came off the bench in the ninth to work bases-loaded walks, but the big early deficit proved to be too much for Erskine to overcome.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine turns its attention to Conference Carolinas play, where the Fleet begin by welcoming in league-newcomer, Ferrum College (1-1), for a three-game series starting Friday at 2 p.m.
