DUE WEST, S.C. – The Erskine College men's soccer team (1-2, 1-1 CC) was defeated by USC Aiken (4-1-1, 1-0-0 PBC) by a score of 3-1 at Ralph Lundy Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers scored three first-half goals to take the lead, and
Tony Gonzalez's first Erskine goal in the 78th minute got the Fleet on the board and set up what looked to be an entertaining final stretch as the Fleet looked to rally back.
However, in the 88th minute, Erskine goalkeeper
Eric Santaguida dove off his line to catch a cross and collided with a USC Aiken player. The game was stopped and the final seconds ticked off the clock with both teams praying at midfield. Santaguida was rushed to the hospital and checked for serious head injuries. Fortunately, Santaguida avoided all serious injuries and was released from the hospital and allowed to return home to continue recovering Saturday night.
