DUE WEST, S.C. – The Erskine College men's soccer team (1-1, 1-1 CC) defeated Shorter University (0-4, 0-2 CC) by a score of 6-0 at Ralph Lundy Field on Wednesday afternoon in the Fleet's first home conference match of the 2025 season.
Erskine controlled the match for most of the afternoon and were lethal in front of goal, scoring three goals in each half en route to a convincing win.
Adolfo Ángel Espino opened the scoring in just the 5th minute with a beautiful long-distance strike from outside the box to give the Fleet an early lead. The game settled in after the early goal but an onslaught by Erskine just before the half helped them open up their lead. In the 37th minute,
Evan Williams doubled Erskine's advantage and moments prior to the interval, the Fleet won a penalty, which
Jonh Sanchez calmly rifled into the top left corner to make it 3-0 Fleet at the half. The second half followed the same trends, with
Sean Jacobs and Kenny All-Hakazimana opening their Erskine accounts just 79 seconds apart from each other, before Jacobs added a sixth and final goal in the 64th minute, as Erskine turned in a decisive 6-0 victory on its home field.

THE PLAYER
Sean Jacobs scored his first and second goals in Erskine colors on Wednesday afternoon, as the freshman midfielder led the way in a six-goal outburst by the Fleet. The Winston-Salem native came off the bench an registered a team-high four shots in just 48 minutes of action, tallying Erskine's first brace by a freshman since 2022.
THE TEAM
Erskine outshot the Hawks 17 to 10, and had a 10 to 6 advantage in shots on target. The Fleet tallied six saves in the match, all by freshman
Luca Barwalde, who earned his first clean sheet of his young Erskine career.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine steps out of league play briefly this weekend to host USC Aiken (2-1-1, 1-0-0 PBC) on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in what will be the first meeting between the teams since 2019.
