HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Converse 6-1 Erskine
After the visitors scored twice in the top of the first inning to put the Fleet in an early hole,
Gabby Burroughs got Erskine on the board in the bottom half of the opening frame, with a solo home run, her team-leading 11th big fly of the season. But, Converse regained its two-run lead in the next inning and added three more runs in the third, while the Fleet offense was held in check throughout of the rest of the opener.
Game 2: Converse 7-6 Erskine
In the back half of the doubleheader, Converse struck early again, this time with a pair of runs in the first inning. After the Valkyries added two more runs a few innings later, the Fleet offense came roaring to life. Trailing 4-0,
Gabby Burroughs cut the deficit in half with a two-run double that scored
Addy Crawford and
Emily Johnson. Moments later,
Peyton Rabon got the Fleet within a run via an RBI groundout, before
Maddie Ingram delivered a clutch two-run double of her own, capping a five-run frame for the Fleet and giving them a 5-4 lead. Some aggressive baserunning helped Erskine add another in the fourth, extending its lead to 6-4. But, Converse responded with a three-run fifth inning and the Fleet were unable to answer back in the final three frames.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine has a quick turnaround, hosting Belmont Abbey College (18-18, 5-9 CC) in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
