HOW IT HAPPENED
Taking on their rival in the final road game of the 2025 regular season, Erskine quickly took a 1-0 lead thanks to a first-inning big fly from
Dylan Wanat, his team-leading 12th home run of the season. Lander tied the game in the next inning, but a bases-loaded walk from
Matt Layton allowed
Josh Hungler to score and the Fleet regained their lead. The hosts responded with a solo home run in the fourth to tie the game again, but Hungler's sacrifice fly in the sixth put Erskine back on top, 3-2. After
Kyle Knoll set down the side in order in the bottom half, Erskine got RBIs double from
Pierce Radke and Layton to extend their lead to 5-2 at the stretch. But, Lander answered with a three-run bottom half of the seventh to tie the game. In the eighth, a hit by pitch and a walk set the stage for the Fleet to regain the lead, and it was Radke who delivered again, singling back up the middle to score Josean Sanchez and send Erskine back in front, 6-5. That score remained the same going into the ninth, and Erskine set down the first two hitters of the inning, but the hosts had a two-out rally as the Fleet lost in heartbreaking fashion.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine finishes the regular season with a vital home weekend series against Shorter University (24-19, 12-15 CC), starting Friday at 2 p.m.
