HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Newberry 9-2 Erskine
Taking on a non-conference opponent over the weekend, Newberry opened the scoring in the first inning and added three more runs in the third to put the Fleet in a 4-0 deficit.
Peyton Rabon launched a solo home run in the fourth to get the Fleet on the board and a wild pitch allowed
Addy Crawford to cross the plate in the fifth but Newberry continued to add to its lead throughout the final few innings.
Game 2: Newberry 12-7 Erskine
In the back half of the doubleheader, a
Kennedy Crouch RBI in the bottom of first canceled out a Newberry run in the top half. The Wolves exploded for a five-run third inning, but the Fleet had an instant response. Crouch started the scoring in the bottom half of the third with an RBI double and then a three-run home run from
Brooke Patterson had Erskine back within a run, 6-5. After the Wolves scored in the top of the fifth, a pinch-hit at-bat from
DC Still induced a Newberry error that allowed two runs to score, tying the game at 7 after five chaotic innings. However, a five-run sixth from the visitors proved to be the difference in Game 2.Â
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine returns to conference play on Tuesday, taking on Young Harris College (14-18, 5-7 CC) for a home doubleheader at 2 p.m.
