HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Lynn 10-8 Erskine
Beginning the weekend in Boca Raton, Erskine started fast, with a two-run single from
Pierce Radke being part of a three-run top of the first inning. However, Lynn answered back with three runs of their own in the bottom half. The Fleet regained the lead in the third inning on a
Josh Hungler RBI single and
Dylan Wanat added a sacrifice fly in the next inning to make it 5-3 Erskine. But, Lynn hit a bases-clearing triple in the bottom half to take its first lead of the day. Now trailing 7-5,
Jude Littrell got Erskine back within a run on a run-scoring single in the sixth, but the home side scored two runs of their own in the bottom half. Heading into the ninth, Erskine trailed 10-6. The Fleet attempted a rally in their last at-bat, as Radke and
Matt Layton each crossed the plate, but the Fleet could not get any closer.
Game 2: Nova Southeastern 11-8 Erskine
The Fleet headed to Fort Lauderdale on Friday to take on a nationally-ranked team, and again the Erskine offense came flying out of the gates.
Pierce Radke,
Elliot Sanders, and
Jorge Pascual each had RBIs as part of a four-run first inning. But, after going quietly in their first at-bat, the 22nd ranked Sharks scored in every other inning they hit.
Quinn Allen delivered a game-tying RBI single in the fifth and Pascual launched a three-run home run in the eighth to get Erskine within one run, 9-8. But, Nova Southeastern hit a home run of their own in the bottom half as the Fleet offense was unable to keep pace.
Game 3: Barry 6-4 Erskine
For the third consecutive day, Erskine scored in the first inning, this time courtesy of an RBI single from
Jude Littrell to give the Fleet an early 1-0 lead over Barry. But, the Buccaneers took control in the middle innings and took a 5-1 lead. The Fleet loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the sixth, but had to settle for just two runs.
Ethan Wilford worked a scoreless seventh and then
Kyle Knoll and
Blake Holshouser combined for a scoreless eighth, meaning the Fleet needed three runs in their final at-bat to stay alive.
Wilder Puertas led off with a base hit and
Matt Layton followed with a pinch-hit double to make it 6-4. Josean Sanchez followed with a single through the left side and the Fleet had the tying run on base with still nobody out. But, a strikeout and a double play ended the Fleet's rally.Â
