HOW IT HAPPENED
Taking on a top-25 foe in their second conference series of the year, the Fleet jumped out to an early lead 3-0 lead behind RBI singles from
Dylan Wanat and
Quinn Allen, as well as an RBI groundout from
Wilder Puertas in the second inning. But, YHC responded with back-to-back home runs in the next half-inning, meaning Erskine now trailed 5-3. Run-scoring singles from
Noah Hill and Josean Sanchez in the fourth tied the game at five momentarily, but again the Mountain Lions had a quick response, this time scoring four runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth, as Erskine was behind, 11-6, after five and half innings. Erskine battled back in the bottom half of the sixth, as Allen and Sanchez each crossed the plate to make it 11-7.
Kyle Knoll came on in relief and tossed three scoreless innings to keep YHC at bay down the stretch, and a
Pierce Radke sacrifice fly in the eighth got the Fleet within three heading into the final inning.
Josh Hungler came off the bench and hit a one-out single, but the Fleet were unable to get the tying run to the plate, as Erskine was beaten in the series opener.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine and Young Harris finish their series with a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at 11 a.m.
