HOW IT HAPPENED
Coming off a win and a clean sheet in their season opener earlier this week, the Fleet created a chance off kickoff against Mount Olive, with
Jordan Schuhlein getting off a strike at goal inside the first 15 seconds. However, Erskine found scoring opportunities difficult to came by after its initial burst and the Trojans opened the scoring just a few minutes later. Goalkeeper
Valentina Santana made six first-half saves, though, to keep it a 1-0 scoreline at the break. However, the second half followed a similar trend and Mount Olive scored twice in a span of 10 minutes to extend its lead.
Rebekah Wiles and
Clair Lewis each had shots on frame in the closing minutes, but the Fleet were unable to find the back of the net as Erskine came up short in its conference opener.
THE TEAM
Erskine was outshot by Mount Olive 34 to 4 and the Trojans held a 16 to 2 advantage in shots on target.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine goes on the road for the first time in 2024 and visits Conference Carolinas newcomer, Shorter University (1-2, 0-1 CC) on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. This will be the first ever meeting between the Fleet and the Hawks.
