HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: UNC Pembroke 18-1 Erskine (Final / 7 innings)
UNC Pembroke struck for two runs in the very first inning and added three more in the second inning to take an early lead. The Fleet settled in after a shaky start but were unable to get the offense going in the first game of the day until a solo home run from
Christian Rivera in the sixth inning got Erskine on the board. The Braves' bats came back to life in the later frames, pulling away late in Game 2 of the series.
Game 2: UNC Pembroke 15-4 Erskine
Similar to the previous game, UNCP scored early and often in the series finale, as their offense stayed red-hot.
Juan Jaime hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to get Erskine on the board in the sixth, and
Christian Rivera added a double later in the frame. In the seventh,
Griff Taylor came off the bench to record a run-scoring hit, and Josean Sanchez hit an RBI double in the ninth, but the Fleet were not able to keep up with the Braves' offense.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine wraps up its season series with its rival, Lander University (22-11, 10-5 PBC), at home on Tuesday at 2 p.m. The Fleet will be hoping for some redemption after the Bearcats swept Erskine in the opening weekend of the year, including a heartbreaking 8-7 defeat in the only game of the series played at Grier Field.
