GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Erskine College baseball team (7-10, 0-3 CC) was defeated by Limestone University (10-6, 4-2 SAC) by a score of 6-5 in 10 innings at Founders FCU Stadium on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After starting pitcher, Noah Palmese, put up a pair of zeroes in his first two innings on the mound, the Fleet opened the scoring in the third inning. Ben Maskin reached on a Saints' error to open the frame, and Josean Sanchez made them pay for the extra out, launching his third home run of the season and firing the Fleet in front, 2-0. Limestone responded with a pair of runs in their half of the third, but Sanchez did it again in the fifth for his second home run of the day and fourth of the year to tie for the team lead. A few innings later, Dale Francis, Jr. added some insurance with an RBI single in the seventh that scored Jude Littrell. However, the hosts clawed their way back with a run in the bottom of the seventh and tied the game with another tally in the eighth. The Fleet had the go-ahead run on third base in the ninth but were unable to score, sending the game to extras. Juan Jaime gave Erskine a spark off the bench with a leadoff, pinch-hit double to start the top of the 10th. Carlos Gonzalez followed with a well-executed sacrifice bunt, before Sanchez delivered again with a sacrifice fly to bring home Jaime and give the Fleet the lead again. But, Limestone delivered the punishing blow, scoring twice in their half of the 10th to knock off the Fleet, 6-5.

THE PLAYER
Despite the loss, Josean Sanchez continued his impressive start to his Flying Fleet career, going 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBIs atop the Erskine lineup.

WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine goes on the road this coming mid-week for a battle against Limestone University (9-6, 4-2 SAC) on Tuesday at 5 p.m. The Fleet throttled the Saints, 15-3, in their meeting at Gaffney a season ago.
