HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Flagler 15-2 Erskine (Final / 5 innings)
It was an early start in the Fleet's 2024 home opener, but Erskine got off to a nice start. After starting pitcher
Kaley Ingle put up a pair of zeroes in her first two innings in the circle, the Fleet struck first. After
Gabby Burroughs was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the second, she was pinch-run for by Savannah Koester. Koester used her speed to provide some action on the basepaths, stealing second base before advancing to third on a wild pitch. Then,
Brooke Patterson singled home Koester to give the Fleet a 1-0 lead. However, Flagler responded in a big way, with crooked numbers in the third and fourth innings. Patterson added a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the fourth for her second RBI of the day, but the Saints won via the run rule.
Game 2: Wingate 10-1 Erskine (Final / 5 innings)
A quick turnaround in Game 2 of the day for the Fleet, and another tall test awaited Erskine; a super-regional team from a year ago, Wingate. The Bulldogs looked the part as they scored in each of their first three trips to the plate to take an early lead.
Kyndall Chandler got the Fleet on the board with an RBI double in the fourth inning, but Wingate scored in every frame to down the Fleet.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine wraps up the 2024 Fleet/Bearcat Invitational with two more games tomorrow, starting with a contest against Emory & Henry College (1-1) at 12 p.m., before finishing the weekend against Limestone University (8-2) at 2 p.m.
