HOW IT HAPPENED
After Wingate opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, a combination of starting pitcher,
Noah Palmese, and reliever
Nick Hyde navigated their ways in and out of jams on multiple occasions in the early frames to keep the Fleet within a run. However, the Bulldogs eventually broke through again in the fifth inning to take a 3-0 lead. The Erskine offense didn't get on the board until the seventh, on a Josean Sanchez RBI single. Erskine had its chances in the final few frames, but Wingate held on to defeat the Fleet.
THE PLAYER
As a whole, the Erskine offense was held in check by a bevy of Wingate pitchers, but leadoff hitter Josean Sanchez had a three-hit day atop the Fleet lineup. Sanchez also drove in both Erskine runs with RBI singles in the 7th and 9th innings.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine visits Claflin University (1-4) this weekend for a four-game series, starting with a doubleheader on Friday at 12 p.m. This will be the first meeting between the Fleet and the Panthers since the 2006 season.
