DUE WEST, S.C. – The Erskine College women's basketball team (2-9, 1-4 CC) was defeated by Chowan University (4-5, 4-1 CC) by a score of 61-57 at Belk Arena on Saturday afternoon.
After leading by a point after the opening quarter, the visiting Hawks outscored Erskine 24 to 13 in the second period to give them a double-digit halftime lead. The Fleet's phrenetic defense and transition offense fueled a late rally, as Erskine got as a close as a point, 58-57 with 1:36 remaining but were unable complete the comeback.

Anzya Cook, in foul trouble most of the game, junior
Ianna Odulaja played a season-high 23 minutes and was extremely impactful off the bench. The Atlanta native totaled 13 points on an efficient 4-for-6 shooting from the field, while adding a career-high 5 steals as well as dishing out a pair of assists.
THE TEAM
Erskine shot 34% (21-62) from the field, and 24% (5-21) from the three-point line, as well as 56% (10-18) from the free throw line. Erskine forced 32 turnovers, 14 of them off of Fleet steals and they converted that into 26 points. The Fleet totaled 34 points from its bench, but the difference was perimeter shooting, as the Hawks made more threes in a more efficient fashion as well.
WHAT'S NEXT?Â
Erskine wraps up its home stand with an out-of-conference matchup against Warren Wilson College (0-10) on Tuesday at 5 p.m. The Fleet won both matchups against the Owls last season by an average of 17.5 points.
