HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite the Nighthawks holding the lion's share of possession and almost all of the scoring opportunities in the first half, the Fleet defense remained resilient and frustrated UNG. Behind eight first-half saves from
Evan Zizek, Erskine and North Georgia went into the break scoreless. The senior goalkeeper continued his heroics in the early stages of the second half as he made a save from point-blank range, followed by a crucial block from
Tobey Burling to keep the hosts off the board. However, UNG eventually broke through, scoring four times in a seven-minute stretch.
Carlos Murguia-Pulido and
Fernando Castillo each had shots on target that forced saves from the Nighthawks' goalie, but the Fleet were beaten on the road.
THE TEAM
Erskine was outshot by North Georgia 29 to 2 and the Nighthawks also had an 16 to 2 advantage in shots on target.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Fleet continue their four-match road trip to begin the season on Friday night when they open Conference Carolinas play at Francis Marion University (0-0-1) at 7 p.m. The Fleet have not won in Florence since 2014, with a 3-1 victory behind a pair of second-half goals from Martin Maschio, Jr.
