HOW IT HAPPENED
Erskine won the first two points of the afternoon, but King responded by winning the next five points. A 6-0 Tornado run later in the set gave them a 15-7 lead. Kills from Brianna Beyerle, Rebecca Yohe, and Kimmy Stiltner helped the Fleet cut the deficit in half, but Erskine was unable to get any closer in the opening set. A Ryleigh Taylor kill started the scoring in Set 2 and the Fleet controlled the set for most of the way. King trimmed the lead down to 22-20, but another Taylor kill squashed that run, and a few points later Ali Angell capped off the set with a kill of her own. Erskine, though, was plagued by a slow start in a crucial third set, going behind 11-4 early. The Fleet battled back and got within two points twice, but the early deficit proved to be too much to overcome. The Tornado started Set 4 fast as well, but again Erskine was resilient and hung around. Despite trailing by as many as seven points in the set, the Fleet came roaring back with a huge 8-0 scoring run, fueled by a pair of kills from Yohe and two Lena Mykins aces that sent Erskine into the lead, 22-20. King won four of the next five points as the Fleet faced a match point. Yohe picked up another kill to keep the Fleet alive as Set 4 went beyond the minimum 25-point marker, but Erskine came up just short and suffered its first loss in conference play this season.
