HOW IT HAPPENED
Chowan made the long trip to Due West to open Conference Carolinas play for the Fleet in 2023, and the Hawks controlled the match from the opening kick. Natasha Bailey's seventh-minute goal gave Chowan an early lead, but the Fleet were resilient in their defending and got to the halftime break trailing by just one goal. In the 53
rd minute, Erskine had its chance to equalize but
Rebekah Wiles' shot was saved. A few minutes later, Chowan doubled their lead and added two more goals in quick succession to put the match beyond doubt as the Fleet came up short in its conference opener.
THE TEAM
Chowan outshot Erskine 24 to 3 and had a 13 to 1 advantage in shots on target.
