HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless opening quarter of an hour, the hosts opened the scoring in the 19th minute on a Bryce Ramler goal. Just over a minute later, Jake Provenzano doubled BJU's lead. However, it did not take the Fleet long to get right back into the match, thanks to a Gustavo Avina goal in the 25th minute to cut the Erskine deficit in half. An Evan Zizek save a few minutes later kept the deficit at just one, but BJU eventually regained its two-goal cushion in the 31st minute with a goal from Asher Aurednik. That was the final action of an entertaining first half, but the Fleet trailed 3-1 at the break. After withstanding some pressure in the early stages of the second half, Avina tallied two more shots on target just four minutes apart from each other, but the BJU goalkeeper made a pair of saves. The Fleet continued to push and were eventually rewarded with a goal from senior Hudson Lewis in the 88th minute, giving the Fleet a last-gasp effort to tie the match in its final stages. However, Erskine was unable to find an equalizer as Bob Jones held on and the Fleet came up short, 3-2.

THE TEAM
Erskine was outshot by Bob Jones, 19 to 7, and the Bruins had a 10 to 5 advantage in shots on target.

THE PLAYER
Freshman Gustavo Avina had a team-high four shots, three of which were on target, and he opened his collegiate account with a 25th-minute strike.

WHAT'S NEXT?
After a long road trip to open the season, Erskine returns home and resumes conference play on Saturday against Chowan University (0-3-1, 0-1-0) CC at 12:30 p.m.
